David Nieper highlighted by BBC as a leading example of ethical British fashion manufacturing

David Nieper has been highlighted as a leading example of ethical, sustainable British fashion manufacturing in a three-part news feature broadcast on BBC East Midlands Today.

The series explored the current state of the UK fashion manufacturing industry, following revelations in 2020 of unethical practices within parts of the Leicester garment sector.

In the final segment, which aired on Wednesday 18 September at 6.30pm, David Nieper Chief Executive Christopher Nieper OBE discussed the company’s unwavering commitment to ethical production and investment in sustainable innovation.

The BBC visited the company’s Alfreton-based factory to take a behind-the-scenes look at how technology is helping to drive sustainability, reduce waste, and support a just-in-time approach to garment production.

Christopher Nieper OBE said:

“We are proud to be part of the important conversation about the future of the British fashion industry.

“British businesses cannot compete with the low-cost overseas production of fast fashion, but we believe the future lies in premium, quality goods made with ethical practices.

“By embracing automation and investing in technology, we’re able to remain competitive while maintaining our commitment to sustainability and excellence.”

During the interview, Christopher also highlighted the importance of investment in education and employability skills to support the long-term future of British manufacturing.

The BBC feature recognised David Nieper as a positive example of how British fashion companies can innovate, remain competitive, and operate with integrity.
