The Economist – David Nieper prizes its older workers

Since the start of the recession, the number of young people in work has fallen sharply, but over the same period the number of workers over the age of 65 has increased as unprecedented numbers of older people are staying in work.

Christopher Nieper, managing director of David Nieper recently talked to The Economist about the benefits of employing older workers.

David Nieper, who designs and manufactures all its lingerie, nightwear and women’s clothing in Derbyshire, prizes the flexibility and skills of its older workers, some of whom have been with the company over twenty years. As a strong supporter of UK manufacturing, retaining older workers and their skills has become even more important to the company as other fashion manufacturers move production abroad and the pool of trained labour dwindles.
