International fashion business teams up with Vision West Nottinghamshire College to train fashion manufacturing stars of the future 

David Nieper, the British fashion house, that designs and manufactures all its luxury womenswear in Alfreton, Derbyshire, has launched a new apprenticeship.

Working in partnership with Vision West Nottinghamshire College in Mansfield, David Nieper is to offer an apprenticeship opportunity for a technical operative working in its cutting department.

This is a full-time apprentice position with potential for a permanent role and career progression within the rapidly expanding company.  The apprentice will learn fabric handling, material cutting and garment make up, as well as training to use cutting equipment and machinery.  The company is also offering apprenticeship roles in print, knitwear and design technology.

Pat Sews-up 42 Years at David Nieper

Expert seamstress retires from Made in Britain fashion house after 42 fashionable years

Pat Foddy, 76, a highly skilled seamstress from Alfreton in Derbyshire, is retiring after a lifetime in fashion, mostly at the British fashion house David Nieper.  She first joined the company in 1973 and has worked for the company almost continuously ever since – sewing up 42 years.

JCB Academy Head Joins David Nieper to Champion Skills in the Fashion and Textiles Industry

Paul-PrichardPaul Pritchard, instrumental in establishing the JCB Academy, the UK’s first University Technical College, has joined the board of British fashion house, David Nieper, as a non-executive director.

His appointment signals David Nieper’s ambitions to take a lead role in regenerating the fashion and textiles industry in the East Midlands, and comes at a time of rapid jobs growth in manufacturing and the UK textiles industry. According to the latest figures from the Alliance Report, more than 20,000 jobs are expected to be created in the UK textiles industry by 2020* – driven by the rising popularity of re-shoring and Made in Britain fashion.

David Nieper Scholarship in Fashion with Nottingham Students

Students at Nottingham Trent University have been awarded more than £5,000 for designing Made in Britain fashion for older women.

Jess Barry, a second-year fashion design student at Nottingham Trent University has been awarded £3,000 and been crowned the winner of the highly contested David Nieper scholarship prize.

Knitwear design student, Charlotte Yates won £1,000 for her designs in the knitwear category with fashion communication and promotion student, Laura Oliver picking up £1,000 for her entry.

Students Danielle Sykes, Guy Dempster and Kellie Hooper also picked-up highly commended awards for their entries, with David Nieper also providing £500 towards the awards presentation that took place on Friday 14 November 2014.

The David Nieper scholarship challenged more than 200 Nottingham Trent University students to design a Made in Britain clothing range for stylish older women. Fashion and promotion students were also tasked with developing a marketing plan that fitted the scholarship competition brief to design a collection for a woman to take on a cruise holiday.

The ASBCI is delighted to announce that British fashion designer Maria Grachvogel will be the keynote speaker at its student conference ‘Make it Fashion’ to be held on Wednesday 5th November at Nottingham Trent University.

Students from 15 ASBCI member colleges and universities across the UK have been invited to attend the conference to hear the realities of working in fashion from an outstanding line-up of fashion industry names. Joining Maria Grachvogel will be influential speakers from Make it British, Warehouse, Fashion Enter, Agent Provocateur and luxury womenswear label David Nieper. Together they will tackle the made in Britain theme and share their wealth of insider industry and career knowledge to inform and inspire student attendees.

Luxury British Fashion House Launches New Jobs Push as Demand for ‘Made In Britain’ Hits a New High

David Nieper looks to take on 40 new staff to grow its workforce and pass on vital skills

Derbyshire fashion house David Nieper has put out a call for dressmakers, pattern cutters, knitwear linkers and other skilled people – as part of a new jobs push to meet record demand for its British-made womenswear.

The fashion designer and manufacturer is looking to take on at least 40 new staff during 2014 to boost its highly skilled workforce, and has already taken on 27 new employees this year.

As part of the recruitment drive, the Alfreton-based company is urging people with experience in textiles, as well as those looking to break into the growing fashion manufacturing industry, to get in touch to find out more about the variety of roles available.

The company is also offering paid re-training for ‘returners to the industry’ to brush up on their skills, whilst also recruiting for part-time and term-time only roles, for those with families or other commitments looking for a new job with flexible working patterns. David Nieper is also launching a new paid training programme for new recruits without previous dressmaking experience – specialist training that can take up to a year to complete.

British fashion house, David Nieper, has launched a new fashion scholarship challenging over 200 second-year fashion students at Nottingham Trent University (NTU) to design and promote fashion for women over 50 – a group often overlooked by the fashion industry.

According to research, women over the age of 50 are driving growth in the fashion industry, spending £6.7 billion on clothing in 2013* alone, yet almost three quarters of women think that the high street ignores them and that the clothing on offer is too focused on younger customers – making them feel invisible**.
